The United States government has issued a stern warning to international students, including Nigerians, about the dangers of violating student visa regulations, stating that such actions could lead to serious immigration consequences.

In a message posted via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria cautioned that students who abandon their academic programmes, skip classes, or fail to notify their schools of any academic changes risk having their student visas revoked.

“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas,” the Mission warned.

The U.S. government emphasized that compliance with visa terms is essential not only for maintaining current student status but also for preserving the possibility of obtaining other U.S. visas in the future.

“Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues,” the statement read.

The advisory serves as a reminder to Nigerian students in the United States and prospective applicants to prioritize academic integrity and follow institutional procedures if changes to their study plans arise.
