Katsina, Nigeria — The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Nigeria. The remains landed at the Katsina Airport from the United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at approximately 1:59 pm, amid tight security and a military welcome.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and some family members of the late Buhari accompanied the corpse on the journey from the UK.

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, and other dignitaries were present to receive the former president's body.

Buhari's remains are expected to be transported to his hometown in Daura, where he will be laid to rest with full military honours.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu also arrived at the Katsina Airport shortly before Buhari's body was flown in. Tinubu's plane landed at 1:50 pm and was received by senior government officials, including state governors and ministers.

Upon his arrival, Tinubu inspected the guard of honour prepared for the occasion. Moments later, the aircraft bearing Buhari’s remains arrived, and Tinubu was on hand to receive the body of his late predecessor.

Earlier, Buhari's former spokesperson, Femi Adesina, revealed the reasons the former president sought medical care abroad, citing inadequate facilities in Nigeria to manage his health condition.
