The President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Festus Osifo, has confirmed that Dangote Refinery sacked all its Nigerian workers shortly after they joined the union.

Naija News reports that the development followed a memo dated September 25, 2025, signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle. In the notice, management described the mass sack as part of a “total re-organisation” exercise, citing alleged cases of sabotage in some units of the refinery.

The directive ordered affected workers to surrender all company property to their line managers and obtain exit clearance. The finance department was also instructed to compute and settle outstanding benefits in line with their terms of employment.

“Management appreciates your services while in our employment and wishes you success in your future endeavours,” the notice stated.

Speaking on the matter in an interview with Daily Post on Friday, Osifo, who also doubles as the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), assured that the refinery would recall the disengaged workers.

“Yes, it is true. We saw the letter late last night (Wednesday). I can assure you that they will recall all of them,” Osifo said.

The refinery and PENGASSAN have been at loggerheads in recent months over staff unionisation, with the latest sack seen as fallout of the ongoing dispute.
