There is mounting public outrage following the forceful abduction of a Lagos State University (LASU) student who had earlier accused her landlord of sexual harassment and death threats.
Videos circulating online show the student being dragged and bundled into a vehicle by men dressed in what appears to be police uniforms, with at least one of them armed with an automatic rifle. The men reportedly told neighbours that they were taking her to the Zone 2 Police Command, but as of now, her whereabouts remain unknown, sparking fears for her safety.
Obi Franklin, a Facebook user, shared the videos and raised the alarm, tagging human rights organisations, LASU authorities, and public figures like VeryDarkMan, a popular social media activist.
“The LASU student that had a case with her landlord has been arrested forcefully by men dressed as security officers. They told neighbours they were from Zone 2. Please share until the IGP of Police and LASU VC see this,” Franklin wrote.
The incident follows the student's viral video where she accused her landlord of sexually harassing her and threatening her life after she rejected his advances. In the video, the landlord allegedly stated:
“You are going to die... If I see you here again…”
He also reportedly said that the issue could be “settled” with ₦500,000, while operating his sachet water factory in the same premises.
Activist VeryDarkMan, who visited the student's residence in Igando, corroborated her claims and raised further concerns about the health standards of the landlord's factory, urging NAFDAC to inspect the premises.
So far, there has been no official statement from the Lagos State Police Command or the LASU management regarding her arrest or location, intensifying public calls for her immediate release and an independent investigation into both her claims against the landlord and the legality of her detention.
