The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, September 1, Wike dismissed recent comments by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who predicted that Tinubu would only manage a third-place finish in the polls.

Wike described El-Rufai as a friend but faulted his political analysis.
“El-Rufai is my friend, but he failed in this mathematics, he goofed. If he knows Tinubu would come third, he should also provide who would be first and second. How do you arrive at who will be third without knowing who will be first and second? In this one, I will put a bet, if he agrees, that Tinubu will win this election squarely,” Wike said.

The FCT minister further clarified that he has no intention of contesting the presidency in 2027, stressing that his loyalty to President Tinubu and his principles would not allow it.
“I will not run. I have integrity, I have character. There is no way my appointer is there, and then I turn around and say I should run,” the former Rivers State governor said.

Wike also cautioned against moves to bring former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He argued that such a decision, particularly handing Obi the PDP ticket for 2027, would destabilize the party.
