The lawmaker representing Kogi Central senatorial district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday officially regained access to her office at the Senate wing of the National Assembly after months of suspension.
Naija News reports that an official of the Sergeant-at-Arms unsealed her office, paving the way for her return.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the development, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan vowed that she would not tender any apology, insisting that her suspension was unjust.
“So, I am actually worried as to what apology they expect from me. You can’t apologize for an injustice,” she said.
The Kogi senator, who maintained she was limited in her comments because some issues were still pending, stressed that her ordeal was a test of democratic institutions.
“In everything, it just shows that sometimes it’s good to put the institutions to test. We can’t be cowed in the face of injustice. No one is more Nigerian than us,” she declared.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed gratitude to her constituents, family, and colleagues who stood firmly by her during her suspension, assuring Nigerians that there is still hope for the nation.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel,” she added.
Reports had earlier suggested that a motion could be raised to compel the lawmaker to apologise before fully resuming her duties, but she dismissed such moves as unacceptable.
