President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today, Thursday, September 4, depart Abuja for Europe to begin a 10-day working vacation, the Presidency has confirmed.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the trip forms part of the President’s 2025 annual leave schedule. The vacation will be split between France and the United Kingdom, after which the President is expected to return to Nigeria.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, September 4, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave. The vacation will last 10 working days. President Tinubu will spend the period between France and the UK and then return to the country,” the statement read in part.
The President’s latest trip comes just a week after he returned from Brazil, where he paid a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Brazil. Prior to that, Tinubu was in Japan for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Earlier in the year, Tinubu spent 18 days in France and the UK on a working visit and retreat. He departed Nigeria on April 2, 2025, and returned to Abuja on April 21.
Meanwhile, some critics have questioned the frequency of the President’s foreign trips. SaharaReporters had earlier reported that some of Tinubu’s overseas visits, often described as working holidays or medical checkups, were viewed by sections of the public as disguised medical trips.
