Journalist and editor of Rariya Hausa newspaper, Sani Ahmed (popularly known as Zangina), has called on the Nigeria Police Force to end the harassment of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and instead focus on tackling terrorists and kidnappers in northern Nigeria.

In a statement on Friday, Zangina said the police should channel their energy toward ending killings and abductions in the far north rather than intimidating Sowore, whom he described as “a defender of the common man.”

“Until the killings and kidnappings are over, Nigeria Police Force’s energy should be focused on the far north and stop using it to harass and intimidate the innocent Sowore that always stood for the common man of Nigeria,” Zangina stated.

He condemned the police for neglecting terrorists and kidnappers who attacked him on the Zaria-Kano Road on August 15, 2025, while targeting Sowore for prosecution.

Zangina, who was recently abducted by unknown gunmen while travelling from Abuja to Kaduna, warned that any further harassment of Sowore would provoke legal action.

He also said he might petition President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demand that police leadership be redeployed to Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Zaria-Kano axis to curb escalating insecurity.

“I can’t be a supporter of Mr. President and feel unsecured and intimidated by armed robbers or kidnappers on my way to Kano from Zaria,” he lamented.

Zangina was kidnapped earlier this month but later regained his freedom.
