— Group warns of consequences over governor’s remarks on Igbo youths
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a scathing press release condemning Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, describing him as “a clear and present danger to the survival of the Igbo race”following recent remarks the governor allegedly made about Igbo youths and insecurity in the region.
In a strongly worded statement issued Thursday, July 10, 2025, by IPOB spokesperson Comrade Emma Powerful, the group accused Soludo of making “reckless, inflammatory, and genocidally provocative” comments by allegedly linking Igbo youths to kidnapping and insecurity in the Southeast.
“Soludo has opened the gates of hell with his treacherous and unconscionable remarks,” the statement read. “He has handed the enemies of Ndigbo a poisoned weapon… to justify extrajudicial killings, mass arrests, and genocidal actions disguised as ‘security operations.’”
IPOB said Soludo’s statements, which were not backed by investigations or evidence, would embolden security forces and “Fulani-sponsored militias” to carry out further raids and killings in the region.
“Soludo Is a Saboteur Like Ukpabi Asika” — IPOB
The pro-Biafra movement likened Soludo to Ukpabi Asika, the controversial Nigerian administrator of East Central State during the civil war era, accusing him of choosing “political ambition and loyalty to the Fulani oligarchy over the lives of his own people.”
The group questioned Soludo’s political motivations, accusing him of seeking favour from the federal government and sabotaging efforts to secure the release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“The same Soludo who wrote a pretentious article in 2023 calling for Kanu’s release has now betrayed that position… working actively to sabotage every legal and political effort for his freedom,” IPOB said.
“IPOB Has No History of Violence”
Reiterating its position, IPOB maintained it is a peaceful and lawful self-determination movement, insisting it has “zero history of criminality” and is not involved in kidnapping or violent crimes in the Southeast.
“Those committing these heinous acts are either government-sponsored operatives or political thugs unleashed to blackmail IPOB,” the group claimed.
“Resign and Seek Psychiatric Help” — IPOB Tells Soludo
The press release concluded with a direct message to the Anambra governor:
“Soludo has spoken like a man who has lost all sense of cultural rootedness and political awareness… He should resign and seek psychiatric help immediately.”
IPOB also called on the people of Anambra and the larger Igbo community to be vigilant and reject so-called leaderswho, it says, wear the cloak of governance but serve external interests.
The fiery statement adds a new layer to the ongoing tension between pro-Biafra activists and Southeast political leaders, particularly as the detention of Nnamdi Kanu remains a central issue in regional politics.
As of the time of this report, Governor Soludo has not issued a response to IPOB’s latest statement.
