Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, recently lost her sister, Ruth, after she was hit by a Dangote truck. Following her tragic death, Ruth’s partner, Mr. Daniel Adebo, has finally spoken out, sparking fresh conversations online.

Phyna had earlier revealed that Ruth had a partner with whom she shared a child, though the two were not married. She also disclosed that Ruth left behind an eight-month-old baby, leaving many people questioning why her partner had remained silent until now.

In a viral video shared on social media, Daniel claimed that despite being responsible for Ruth and her children, he was sidelined in major decisions about her care.

“The reason I didn’t respond when Phyna called me irresponsible is because of my woman. I don’t want her to wake up and see me involved in any drama. All I am after is her recuperation. I want to come to Lagos to be by her side, but they said I must take permission from Phyna,” he said.

Daniel alleged that he had been the one paying Ruth’s tuition for the past three years, as well as covering her child’s needs, including a son she had before their relationship. He further challenged Phyna to provide evidence of financial support for Ruth in recent years.

“I have been the one taking care of her and even the son she had before I met her, and we also have a child together. If I am lying, Ruth’s mother is my witness, unless they have influenced her to say otherwise. I challenge Phyna to post screenshots of any money she has sent Ruth in the last three years. If she has, I will bow my head in shame,” he stated.

Social Media Reactions

Daniel’s revelation drew mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While some criticized him for speaking out only after Ruth’s death, others questioned why Phyna appeared to sideline him despite his relationship with her sister.

@sincerelyivie said: “Be by her side when she is dying? Were you by her side when she was alive? Abeg you for nor just do this video. If you love her, you suppose dey mourn.”

@queen_white24 added: “So you spoke to him once and you can tell that he is responsible? Una too funny.”

Others argued that bride price should not define a man’s commitment. @potens_shyne wrote: “Most of those saying e no pay bride price… dem pay una mama bride price??”

Meanwhile, some defended Phyna’s stance, suggesting her actions were to prevent family matters from spilling onto social media.

Background

Ruth’s passing has already drawn public outrage, with activist Verydarkman (VDM) slamming both the government and Dangote Group for negligence and slow response while she was hospitalised.

The controversy around her partner’s silence and Phyna’s protective role has now added another layer of tension to an already sensitive family tragedy.
