Fidelity Bank Plc has expanded its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, to Anambra State, reaching over 2,000 vulnerable residents with essential food supplies.
The two-day outreach, held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Catholic Diocese of Awka and Emmaus House, Anglican Diocese of Awka, provided relief materials to the elderly, widows, and other disadvantaged members of the community.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, Dr. Nosa Orumwense, Regional Bank Head – Awka, Fidelity Bank Plc, reiterated the bank’s dedication to fighting hunger across Nigeria.
“The Fidelity Food Bank was launched as part of our commitment to the well-being of our host communities. We are delighted to bring this initiative to Anambra State, ensuring the most vulnerable among us receive support during these difficult times,” Orumwense said.
The initiative drew commendations from community and religious leaders. Rev. Father Levi Ukor, Director of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Catholic Diocese of Awka, praised the collaboration, stressing that hunger remains a pressing issue in many households.
Similarly, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, described food as a basic necessity and called on other corporate organizations to emulate Fidelity Bank’s intervention.
Chinedu Okafor, Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, also lauded the initiative, noting that it came at a crucial time when many families are struggling with harsh economic realities.
“Fidelity Bank’s intervention brings real relief to families in need. We deeply appreciate the bank’s commitment to our community,” Okafor said.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, with Mrs. Adanma Mbah, one of the recipients, saying the food items would greatly assist her family. Another beneficiary, Mrs. Nnenna Okeke, urged other organizations to adopt similar interventions to ease the burden of hunger.
Since its launch in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has distributed over 250,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, reaching more than 300 communities nationwide.
Fidelity Bank, which serves over 9.1 million customers through digital channels, 255 business offices in Nigeria, and a UK subsidiary (FidBank UK Limited), continues to receive recognition for its innovation and social impact. The bank has won multiple awards in 2024, including the Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award (BAFI Awards), Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application (Global Business Outlook), and Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria (Euromoney Awards for Excellence).
