The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary will be marked with a low-key celebration.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a Pre-Independence World Press Conference on Monday in Abuja.

He confirmed that the theme of this year’s celebration is “All Hands on Deck.”

Idris explained that the activities began with Jumat prayers on Friday and a Thanksgiving service on Sunday. Other events include the unveiling of the National Value Charter (NVC) by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and a National Students’ Debate.

The NVC, according to the minister, is designed to cultivate national pride and responsible citizenship.

It is divided into two sections:

  • The Nigerian Promise: A pledge by the government to uphold values such as democracy, equality, entrepreneurship, peace, inclusivity, and meritocracy.

  • The Citizen’s Code: A call for Nigerians to embrace discipline, accountability, tolerance, environmental awareness, and resilience.

The NOA said the campaign will be promoted through community engagement, public sensitisation, and digital platforms.
