The Federal Ministry of Environment has warned that several locations across 16 states in Nigeria may experience heavy rainfall capable of causing flooding between October 4 and October 8, 2025.
According to Naija News, the alert was issued on Saturday by the National Flood Early Warning Centre, in a statement signed by Usman Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department.
The centre predicted that 39 locations across the 16 states could be affected, urging relevant stakeholders and state governments to put precautionary measures in place to reduce the impact.

The ministry stressed the importance of early action to prevent loss of lives and property.
Flood Impact So Far in 2025
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as of September 20, at least 232 people have died, while 121,224 others were displaced due to flooding across different parts of the country.
The 2025 flood dashboard also revealed that 339,658 people have been affected, with 681 injured in various incidents.
