Biden’s health has been a recurring source of public concern, especially after his disastrous debate performance in June 2024.
Former United States President Joe Biden has once again gone under the knife to remove cancerous skin cells, his spokesperson confirmed to NBC News on Thursday.
Biden’s personal office said the 82-year-old Democrat is “recovering well” from the procedure, identified as Mohs surgery – a technique commonly used to treat basal cell carcinoma and other widespread forms of skin cancer.
Although the exact date of the operation remains unclear, Biden was recently photographed leaving a church in Greenville, Delaware, late last month, with a large incision clearly visible on his head.
This is not the first time Biden has faced a skin cancer scare. During his presidency in 2023, his doctor, Kevin O’Connor, disclosed that a biopsy had revealed basal cell carcinoma on the then-president’s chest.
O’Connor said at the time that “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed” and that “no further treatment was required.”
The former first lady, Jill Biden, also faced a similar health scare in 2023, undergoing surgery to remove two basal cell carcinoma lesions – one above her eye and another on her chest.
Biden’s health has been a recurring source of public concern, especially after his disastrous debate performance in June 2024.
The performance, widely described as “abysmal,” fueled questions about his fitness for office and ultimately led him to abandon his 2024 re-election campaign weeks later.
In May 2025, Biden shocked Americans when he revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.
His office, however, assured the public that the cancer was “hormone-sensitive,” meaning treatment options were available and potentially effective in slowing the disease.
Both Republicans and Democrats initially rallied behind Biden with public displays of sympathy and solidarity. But the political goodwill quickly evaporated.
Donald Trump and his allies accused Biden of possibly concealing his diagnosis while still in office, raising suspicions about whether White House aides, including Dr. O’Connor, had hidden critical details from the public.
