Abuja, Nigeria – July 18, 2025 —Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a seasoned political tactician who has proven resilient against numerous efforts to unseat him over the years.

Speaking during a live appearance on AIT’s Kakaaki programme, Ulasi recounted how Tinubu, during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State (1999–2007), withstood strong political opposition — including from then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“There was nothing Obasanjo didn’t do,” Ulasi said. “We managed to take some South-West states, but Lagos was untouchable. He [Tinubu] stayed strong for the entire eight years.”

Ulasi, who was the South-East Director for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, revealed he had previously warned PDP leaders about underestimating Tinubu’s political strength.

“I told them Tinubu is not someone you just push aside,” he said. “They didn’t take me seriously. Today, he is President of Nigeria.”

The former PDP leader noted that the opposition party must undergo serious internal restructuring if it hopes to pose a credible challenge in the 2027 general elections.

“We were not trained for opposition politics,” he explained. “We came into government directly from formation, and that lack of experience is showing now.”

Ulasi’s remarks come amid growing calls for reform within the PDP following its defeat in the 2023 general elections and ongoing challenges in mounting effective opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
