The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, is dead.

The respected monarch passed away on Friday in Abuja at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness, according to official sources.

Dr. Bello ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father, becoming the 16th Emir of Gusau. Before his reign, he had a distinguished civil service career, serving as a Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and Zamfara State.

Confirming the news, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal described the Emir’s death as a “monumental loss” to the state and Nigeria at large. The statement was issued through the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello,” Governor Lawal said.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, the immediate and extended families of the late Emir, and the good people of Zamfara State.”

The governor praised the Emir’s leadership style, describing him as a man of deep faith and service. He added that the late royal father was a source of wisdom and guidance to leaders across the state.

“He led with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of faith. I have lost a confidant and a father,” the governor noted. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah.”

Further announcements regarding the Emir’s burial and succession are expected from the Gusau Emirate Council.
