Naija Blog— Suspected terrorists attacked Lema community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Thursday, killing one person and abducting two others.

The incident, which has thrown the quiet settlement into panic, comes amid a wave of violent abductions across the state in recent weeks.

Residents said the attackers are still believed to be within the vicinity, prompting urgent calls for security agencies to intervene before more harm is done.

Kwara State, particularly its northern and southern regions, has witnessed a disturbing rise in kidnappings and ransom demands. As of press time, the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, has yet to release an official statement on the attack.

This latest assault follows a series of violent incidents in Kwara North:

  • August 13: Four residents of Gamalegi village in Lafiagi Emirate were abducted during a late-night raid. Armed men stormed the village around 11 p.m., firing sporadically before whisking away their victims.

  • Earlier this week: Three people were kidnapped from Lade community, and three others, including a one-year-old child, were seized from Gbale community.

  • Four days ago: Gunmen attacked Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, killing two people, including a police officer, during a vigilante meeting.

The surge in banditry has left communities in fear, with residents repeatedly appealing to both the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government for sustained and effective security measures.
