The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Ubakpororo Kelvin, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Excel Ukeredi Peace, who was also the mother of his two children.
The tragic incident occurred on June 26, 2025, but Kelvin had reportedly been on the run since then. He was recently apprehended by the police and, in a video shared by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, Kelvin confessed to the crime.
According to the police, the suspect admitted that during an argument, he attacked Peace with a hammer after accusing her of engaging in activities he disapproved of. Kelvin claimed that the argument escalated when the deceased allegedly picked up a knife. He further stated that he was under the influence of drugs — specifically tramadol and loud — when he struck her multiple times on the forehead.
The police also disclosed that Kelvin works as a farmer and engages in internet-related fraud.
The case has generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing anger and sadness over the incident. Some users condemned the suspect's actions and questioned his attempt to blame drugs for his behaviour, while others called for justice and protection for the couple’s children.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody. The police emphasized the importance of addressing drug abuse and its impact on violent crimes.
