Some elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have vowed to mobilise massively for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.
Operating under the banner of the Ondo State APC Elders Movement, the leaders said their target was to secure 1.5 million votes out of the state’s 1.9 million registered voters for Tinubu.
Speaking at a meeting in Akure on Monday, the Chairman of the movement, Senator Nimbe Farunkanmi, described the initiative as a platform to unite party members and guarantee overwhelming support for the President.
“This is the elders’ movement for Tinubu’s continuity in office. Meetings like this will be replicated at the local government, ward, and unit levels ahead of 2027,” Farunkanmi stated.
Another leader of the group, Mr. Jamiu Ekungba, explained that mobilisation was already ongoing through the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ekungba said, “Somebody has said we are going to deliver 1.5 million votes to Tinubu, and it is possible because currently, registered voters in the state are 1.9 million. The elders will ensure that people come out to vote in such numbers that have never been seen before.”
He added that the initiative was necessary to tackle voter apathy and strengthen the APC’s hold in the state.
Also speaking, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, Ondo State’s representative in the National Population Commission, noted that focus had shifted from the November 2024 governorship election to the 2027 presidential poll.
She said: “We are focusing on the achievements and the victory at the polls in 2027 for the re-election of our President, Bola Tinubu. Now that we have leaders and elders committed to the cause, Tinubu’s re-election will be easier to achieve.”
