A foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has dismissed claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that a national consensus is building to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking on Sunday at Eke, Enugu State, during a briefing with members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Okechukwu said the group has resolved to support Tinubu and deliver a significant portion of the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s 12 million vote-bank in the next presidential election.
“No consensus can unseat Tinubu in 2027. The subsisting national consensus is the rotation of the presidency from North to South and vice versa, a golden milestone of the 4th Republic for equity, justice and fairness,” he said.
Okechukwu described those who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC as “Internally Displaced Politicians (IDPs),” accusing them of destabilising their former party and engaging in “desperate power grabbing.”
He argued that the rotation agreement remains in Nigeria’s collective interest and insisted Tinubu cannot be blamed for the PDP’s internal breaches of its zoning convention.
“Please don’t mind the IDPs who, after destabilising the PDP, became desperate power grabbers. Today they are oiling ethno-religious levers and blaming President Tinubu for their unforced error,” Okechukwu stated.
The APC chieftain further maintained that northern voters, whom the ADC is banking on, are too sophisticated to be swayed by political permutations.
“ADC banks on the northern electorates as if they are quartered in a dormitory for picks at the whims and caprices of IDPs. It is a mirage,” he declared.
Okechukwu concluded that Tinubu’s support base, reinforced by the CPC bloc and Buhari’s vote-bank, gives the president a formidable advantage heading into 2027.
