Kano State is in mourning following the gruesome murder of respected journalist Sadiq Gentle, a Senior Special Reporter under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s office. Gentle was attacked with a machete by suspected thugs who broke into his home, leaving him in critical condition before he eventually passed at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

Sources close to the journalist say he was preparing for surgery before his health deteriorated suddenly. A friend, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, confirmed, “Some thugs broke into his house, stabbed him, and took his phones. He couldn’t make it.”

This comes amid a terrifying wave of insecurity in Kano. Just recently, a BUK student was stabbed to death in Dorayi. Now citizens are left wondering: Who’s next?

Surprisingly, Kano authorities have kept mute, sparking outrage from residents who say the growing violence is out of control.

Friends and fellow journalists have taken to social media, mourning a man they describe as gentle, humble, and hardworking. One user wrote: "Sadiq didn't deserve this. Kano must do better."
