President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded 17-year-old Nigerian student Nafisa Abdullah Aminu for her exceptional performance at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, where she emerged as the overall best in English language skills. In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Nafisa for showcasing the country's potential on a global stage.
Nafisa, a student at the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, outshone more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English speakers, to secure the top spot. President Tinubu commended her brilliance, stating that the nation's future "is much brighter with many of its youth as repositories of excellence." He also acknowledged the role of her school in nurturing such talent, calling it a reflection of the "strength and potential of Nigeria’s educational system."
The President also recognized the achievements of other Nigerian students, Rukayya Ashiru and Hadiza Ibrahim, who also performed impressively at the competition. He noted that their success highlights the growing global presence of Nigerian academic excellence.
Reaffirming his administration's commitment to education, President Tinubu cited the recent launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a significant step toward removing financial barriers for students pursuing higher education.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has called on the Federal Government to officially celebrate Nafisa's achievement. In a post on his official X handle, Pantami suggested that Nafisa be rewarded with $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honor, similar to the recognition given to national athletes like the Super Falcons and D'Tigress. He also recommended similar honors for her English teacher, emphasizing the importance of celebrating both talent and mentorship. Pantami concluded by urging the presidency to officially invite Nafisa and her teacher, stating that educational achievements deserve as much national celebration as sporting victories.
