Tragedy has struck Union Bank PLC as one of its newly promoted Regional Managers, Muhammed Suleiman, was shot dead just three weeks after his elevation.
Suleiman was killed on August 4 while travelling from Kaduna to Katsina on official duty. The exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
His colleagues under the Federal Government College, Kaduna Old Students Association (FEGOKOSA), have called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.
Addressing journalists in Lagos on Friday, FEGOKOSA President, Mr. Seyi Gambo, questioned claims that bandits were responsible for Suleiman’s killing, stressing that such assertions should be critically examined. He was joined at the briefing by the association’s secretary, Binta Mora, Uchenna Orazulike Nnoli, Global President of the Federal Government College Ugwolawo Old Students Association, and a member identified as Williams.
“Insecurity should not be accepted as a national culture. Security must top everyone’s scale of preference in this country. It is only when there is life that we can talk about development, education, business and nation-building. Without safety, nothing else stands,” Gambo said.
He urged Nigerians to see security as a collective responsibility, adding: “Security challenges anywhere in Nigeria must be a concern to us all. Whether in the North, South, East or West, the pain of one community should be felt by every Nigerian. We must stand together – one for all, all for one.”
The association further appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to keep the family, colleagues, and the general public informed of its findings. It also called on the federal government, security agencies, corporate organisations, and citizens to rise to the challenge of restoring peace and safety across the country.
