Lagos, Nigeria — Dr. Doyin Abiola, a legendary figure in Nigerian journalism and the widow of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, has passed away. According to a report by NaijaBlog, she died on August 5, 2025, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
Dr. Abiola's career was marked by numerous firsts, including becoming the first Nigerian woman to serve as the editor-in-chief of a national daily newspaper. She began her impactful career at the Daily Sketch in 1969, where she became known for her popular column, “Tiro,” which addressed social and gender issues.
She went on to serve as the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the National Concord for over three decades, a role in which she profoundly shaped Nigeria's media landscape and championed women's rights. Her legacy as a pioneering journalist and a fierce advocate for a free press will be remembered for years to come.
