The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has paid glowing tribute to his late mother, Nana Lydia Yilwatda, describing her as a pillar of strength who endured ill health for nearly five decades.

Speaking on Saturday in Jos during her burial programme, Yilwatda revealed that his mother lived on medication for 47 years but continued to support her family and community.

“My mother worked for twenty-four hours despite her health condition, supporting us and providing humanitarian assistance,” the APC chairman said.

Yilwatda also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, who attended the burial with his entourage, commending him for his leadership and support. He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him as APC National Chairman.

Naija News recalls that Mrs. Yilwatda passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, at the age of 83.

In a condolence statement, the APC State Publicity Secretary in Plateau, Shittu Bamaiyi, described the late Mama Lydia as “a devoted Christian, a virtuous woman leader, and a pillar of the Church of Christ in Nations.”

“The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State received with shock the sad news of the death of the mother of its National Chairman, Mama Lydia Yilwatda. Her death is not only a personal loss to the National Chairman but also to the entire APC family in Plateau State and the country at large,” the statement read.

It further noted that Mama Lydia, alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, contributed immensely to the growth of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) across Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau States.
