The Abia State Government had earlir announced plans to build 20 smart schools across the state, investing a total of ₦7 billion.

The initiative was intended to modernize education by providing digital tools and improved infrastructure for students, but Onyia’s comments suggest that the execution fell far short of expectations.

Education stakeholders and members of the public are now calling for a thorough review of the smart schools project to ensure that future investments are properly managed and that students receive the intended benefits.

Onyia’s criticism has reignited debates over accountability, transparency, and prioritization of quality in government-led educational projects in Abia State
