Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has issued a public apology to her colleague Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Senator Ned Nwoko, following reports that Mercy Johnson filed a police petition against her over alleged cyberbullying and online harassment.
In a reflective and emotional statement shared via her Instagram, Angela admitted that her past comments and actions were hurtful, regrettable, and born out of emotional pain. She acknowledged that her utterances, even though they were an attempt to express herself during moments of hurt, may have inflicted unintended harm.
"I am human, and when my emotions take over, I speak from the heart... but I realize now that my utterances, whether uttered from a place of pain or not, were hurtful," she wrote.
Apology to Mercy Johnson
Angela directly addressed Mercy Johnson, expressing deep remorse for any pain she caused her and her family.
“I feel so sorry having realized how this gets to you, Mercy. Your mental health is very important now and ever. I wouldn’t wish you and your family worse — that’s not my nature, and you know it. Do find a place in your heart to forgive me,” she pleaded.
Apology to Senator Ned Nwoko
Okorie also apologised to Senator Ned Nwoko, explaining that her earlier reactions to him were made in anger, especially after what she described as “unprovoked bashing and attack” online. She admitted her response was blown out of proportion and regretted any disrespect that may have come from her actions.
"I truly reacted in a way I now recognise wasn’t pleasant. I cannot intentionally disrespect you for whatever reason," she noted.
Angela recalled her previous association with Nwoko, including participating in his political campaigns and family events, highlighting that these memories made her realise that peace is better than conflict.
Reflection and Moving Forward
Angela further lamented being a target of betrayal, false narratives by bloggers, and social media attacks, but stated that she has chosen to forgive everyone who has wronged her.
She ended her apology with a commitment to peace and regret for her actions, stating:
“All these have made me realize that being at peace is better than war or fight. I deeply regret my actions and am sorry.”
Background
This apology comes days after reports surfaced that Mercy Johnson had petitioned the police against Angela Okorie for alleged sustained online harassment. Angela had made several social media posts targeting Mercy, which reportedly led to the police invitation.
Reactions
The apology has drawn mixed reactions on social media. Some praised Angela’s humility and reflection, while others questioned the sincerity of her message given the history of harsh exchanges.
