Accra, Ghana – August 18, 2025 – Veteran Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has stirred fresh controversy after stating that single mothers cannot fully raise male children into men without male influence.
Speaking during an interview on Okay 101.7 FM, Accra, the actor argued that while women are natural nurturers, they lack certain traits needed to instill discipline and masculine strength in boys.
According to him, “A woman can’t raise a man. You can’t, you’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly. You need a male influence – go get your brother that’s doing well or your father or even any man that you trust. There has to be a male presence in raising a boy child.”
He further explained that without such influence, boys raised solely by women risk becoming “weak men,” often resembling the same type of men who abandoned their mothers.
Jim Iyke emphasized the importance of firm discipline, saying that young boys need someone who will say “No” and push them through life’s grind, rather than being overly shielded by maternal love.
The statement has since generated heated reactions online, with many Nigerians and Ghanaians debating whether or not his position undermines the sacrifices of single mothers across the world.
