Eight months after a failed bank transfer, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has yet to refund ₦134,400 to a Lagos-based customer identified as Oluwadamilola.
According to the customer, the disputed amount was transferred on November 21, 2024, to a Sterling Bank account belonging to a beneficiary company, but the funds were never received.
“It has been exactly eight months since I made the N134,400 transfer, and as we speak, the money is still hanging. GTBank has not done anything to resolve the matter,” Oluwadamilola told FIJ on Wednesday.
Despite repeated efforts — including emails, phone calls, and visits to GTBank branches — the money has neither been reversed to Oluwadamilola’s account nor credited to the intended recipient.
Sterling Bank, after reviewing the transaction, confirmed it never received the funds and advised Oluwadamilola to follow up with GTBank. However, no helpful response has been provided by GTBank to date.
“That N134,400 is a major part of my small business capital. Losing it has affected me badly,” Oluwadamilola said.
FIJ reached out to GTBank’s e-fraud and customer care units, but as of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the bank.
The unresolved transaction raises concerns about customer protection and dispute resolution within Nigeria’s banking system, especially in interbank transfers.
