Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fees for a slow over rate during their thrilling victory over Sri Lanka in the tri-series final in Lahore.
The side were judged to be one over short once time allowances were factored in. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are penalised five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi accepted both the charge and the sanction.
Pakistan had reached the final after winning three of their four round-robin games against Sri Lanka and England. In the title decider they were set a challenging 326 — at the same ground where Sri Lanka had earlier skittled them for 110.
A brilliant century from Fakhar Zaman, backed by half-centuries from Saad Baig and Arafat Minhas, guided Pakistan to a three-wicket win. The successful chase equalled the highest total ever chased down in an ODI final or knockout match.
