Luka Doncic extended his historic scoring spree on Monday night, dropping 42 points to propel the Los Angeles Lakers to a dominant 138–117 victory over the Miami Heat.
The performance marked Doncic's fourth game of 40+ points in his last five outings, pushing his NBA-leading scoring average to an astonishing 38.8 points per game.
🐐 Praise of All-Time Greatness
The superstar’s incredible run drew high praise from Miami star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who didn’t hesitate to place the 27-year-old alongside the greatest scorers in basketball history:
"Obviously, he's one of the best scorers to play this game, if not the best," Antetokounmpo said. Clarifying his stance when asked if he meant just right now, Giannis added: "Not right now... Of all time. I feel like some people are scared to say that, but he's got to be up there."
Coming from a two-time MVP, the high praise is backed up by historic numbers:
All-Time Average: Doncic’s career average of 29.32 PPG trails only Michael Jordan (30.12) and Wilt Chamberlain (30.07).
Kobe Territory: Luka recorded his fifth straight game with 20+ points in the first half—becoming the first Laker to accomplish that feat since Kobe Bryant in 2007.
Red-Hot Five-Game Run: Over his last five games, Doncic is averaging 43.4 points on 53.2% shooting from the field, 44.7% from three, and 89.1% from the foul line.
🎯 Complete Offense & Playmaking
In addition to his scoring output, Doncic dished out 13 assists, picking apart Miami's double-teams with ease. When the Heat blitzed him on ball screens, the Lakers scored on six out of seven possessions, helping L.A. finish with a season-high 39 team assists under head coach JJ Redick.
"It just feels almost anything he shoots, whether it's a circus shot or regular step-back 3... you think it's going in," teammate Quentin Grimes remarked. "Kind of crazy little heater he's on for sure."
Despite his individual brilliance, Doncic kept his focus on the team’s momentum as the Lakers improved to 6-2 and climbed to fourth in the Western Conference.
"Obviously when we win, it feels way better," Doncic said with a smile. "But obviously, it feels good."
