Harry Kane was denied a place in the history books as he failed to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for scoring in the most consecutive Champions League matches.
The Bayern Munich striker had netted in 10 straight games but drew a blank on Tuesday as his side beat Atlético Madrid 2-0. Goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer sealed the win, with Kane providing the assist for the second.
Kane had moved within one of Ronaldo’s all-time mark of 11 when he converted a penalty against Arsenal on matchday three. Fresh from winning the Ballon d’Or, he was unable to equal the Portuguese great’s tally despite Bayern’s comfortable victory.
Ronaldo set the benchmark during Real Madrid’s successful 2017-18 campaign, which culminated in a third successive Champions League title. His 11-game run began with a brace in the previous season’s final against Juventus and continued through the entire group stage and both legs of the last-16 and quarter-final ties.
Kane’s own sequence started with a brace against Union Saint-Gilloise on matchday seven of Bayern’s 2025-26 campaign. He scored again against PSV Eindhoven the following week, then returned from the bench to net twice in the second leg against Atalanta. He found the net in every subsequent match until Bayern’s European hopes were ended by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, before continuing the streak this season against Bodø/Glimt, Viking FK and Arsenal.
The current list of longest consecutive Champions League scoring runs stands as follows:
11: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 2017-18)
10: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, 2026)
9: Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United, 2002-03)
9: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich, 2019-20 and 2020-21)
8: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 2013-14)
