Piero Hincapié delivered a sharp social-media dig at Virgil van Dijk after Arsenal’s 1-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday.
Kai Havertz’s second-half strike handed the reigning champions a hard-fought win and restored them to the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool, meanwhile, were left seething after referee Andy Madley and VAR ignored a clear shirt-pull by Jurriën Timber on Alexander Isak inside the penalty area.
Hours after the final whistle, Hincapié posted a close-up photograph of the gold Premier League champions badge on his sleeve with the simple caption: “I don’t forget.”
The post was a direct reply to Van Dijk, who had shared a near-identical image of Liverpool’s champions badge after the sides drew 0-0 at the Emirates in January.
Arsenal now sit nine points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool as they chase a second successive title.
Van Dijk and Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola both voiced their frustration over the penalty decision. “Why does he have to complain when there are so many cameras?” Van Dijk asked, while Iraola suggested: “Next time, the managers should tell Alex to go to the floor, otherwise they won’t call it.”
Both clubs now switch focus to midweek Champions League action, with Arsenal travelling to Slavia Prague and Liverpool facing Fenerbahce away.
