The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a disagreement between him and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that their relationship remains cordial.
Wike made the clarification on Saturday during the funeral Mass of Dan Osi Orbih, a former South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
“There is no problem between me and the governor; we are very close; we work together and we will continue to work together,” the minister said.
Naija Blog reports that Wike’s remarks came amid speculation about the relationship between the two politicians.
The FCT minister dismissed suggestions of strained relations and commended Okpebholo for receiving Orbih’s remains and visiting the deceased’s residence in Benin City to pay his respects.
Wike Mourns Late PDP Chieftain
Reflecting on Orbih’s death, Wike described the loss as difficult to accept, particularly because of his close relationship with the deceased.
The minister said seeing Orbih’s casket made the reality of his death even more painful.
He also called for prayers for the bereaved family, urging people to support them as they come to terms with the loss of their loved one.
The funeral attracted political associates and other dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects to the late PDP chieftain.
Okpebholo Thanks Wike for Supporting Family
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to Wike for his support for Orbih’s family during the mourning period.
The governor also used the occasion to urge Nigerians, particularly public office holders, to serve others and ensure their positions contribute positively to society.
According to Okpebholo, Orbih’s death serves as a reminder of the uncertainty of life and the importance of making meaningful contributions while alive.
He stressed that neither wealth nor political office could prevent death, urging those in positions of authority to focus on serving humanity.
Bishop Dunia Reflects on Mortality
Delivering the homily at the funeral Mass, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, urged the congregation to reflect on the inevitability of death.
The bishop noted that titles, academic qualifications, social standing and personal achievements could not exempt anyone from mortality.
He encouraged the congregation to consider the significance of life and the need to live meaningfully.
Orbih’s funeral brought together political figures, associates and other dignitaries, who gathered in Ogbona to honour his memory and sympathise with his family.
