Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi Make INEC’s Final List of 2027 Presidential Candidates

 


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of 18 presidential candidates and their running mates for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Naija Blog reports that the list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, features candidates representing 18 political parties, including President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Other prominent figures on the list include Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Also contesting the presidency are Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), and Peter Agada of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

The list also contains candidates from other political parties seeking to succeed Tinubu when his current term ends.

Two Women to Contest Presidential Election

According to the published list, two women are among the 18 presidential candidates.

They are Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

Their inclusion adds to the diversity of candidates expected to compete in the presidential election.

Meanwhile, four women have been listed as vice-presidential candidates representing their respective political parties.

They are Peace Egobia of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Nafisat Usaku of the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), Hajja Bintu Konto of the Labour Party, and Patience Ndidi Key of the Young Progressive Party.

Atiku Listed as Oldest Presidential Candidate

INEC’s published list shows that the presidential candidates are aged between 35 and 79, while their running mates fall within the age range of 35 to 80.

Atiku Abubakar, listed at 79, is the oldest presidential candidate on the list.

Moses Adebisi Olusoji of the Democratic Labour Alliance, aged 35, is identified as the youngest presidential candidate.

The list provides details of the candidates and their running mates as political parties prepare for the next general election.

INEC Announces 2027 Election Dates

INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

The governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on February 6, 2027.

The release of the final list marks a significant stage in preparations for the elections, with the listed candidates expected to compete for the presidency under their respective political parties.

The forthcoming election is expected to feature established political figures, current officeholders and other candidates seeking to lead Nigeria for the next four-year presidential term.
