Adeleke Denies Deal to Share Osun Political Seats With APC
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke has dismissed reports suggesting that he reached an agreement with the Presidency to share legislative and local government positions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Adeleke issued the clarification on Wednesday through a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, describing the reports circulating on social media as false.
The reports had alleged that an arrangement involving the governor, the Presidency, the Osun Accord and the state APC included sharing local government positions, Senate seats, House of Representatives seats and State House of Assembly positions ahead of the forthcoming elections.
However, the governor denied entering into any agreement to distribute legislative seats or local government positions with the APC.
Adeleke also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid.
According to the statement, ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the local government crisis in Osun State are focused on protecting the interests of both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairpersons and councillors.
The governor maintained that the negotiations should not be interpreted as an agreement to share political offices between the parties.
He described the reports of an office-sharing arrangement as “mere fabrication and fake news.”
Adeleke further assured residents that efforts to resolve the local government crisis would be concluded before the end of the year.
He stressed that the only issue uniting the coalition partners was the presidential election, dismissing claims that the cooperation extended to sharing legislative positions in Osun State.
The clarification comes amid political discussions surrounding the relationship between the Osun State Government and the Presidency, as political parties prepare for upcoming elections.
