The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the ongoing development in Abuja would not have been possible without the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly.
Wike made the statement on Friday during the commissioning of access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in the Karsana District of Abuja, an event marking President Tinubu’s third year in office.
The President was represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
"Development Would Not Have Been Possible Without Tinubu" – Wike
Wike explained that the rapid execution of infrastructure projects across the FCT was made possible by President Tinubu’s backing and the timely approval of the FCTA budget by the National Assembly.
He noted that when the Renewed Hope City project was first launched in 2024, the area had no road network, making development difficult and unattractive to investors.
"When Mr President came here in 2024 to lay the foundation of the Renewed Hope City, I was imagining how anybody would bother to come and stay in this area because there was no road," Wike said.
He added that developers initially expressed concern that their investments would be at risk without proper road infrastructure.
Road Project Awarded In 2025
Wike disclosed that the road contract in Karsana District was awarded in February 2025 to a construction firm identified as Lubricks, following the administration’s decision to open up the area for development.
According to him, the project has now significantly transformed the district ahead of the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
"Today, on the third year of Mr President, it’s a different story. We have turned around this area and look at how beautiful it is. It is your handwork and your support for the FCT Administration," he said.
Praise For Budget Support And Contractors
The FCT Minister also commended the National Assembly for ensuring quick passage of the FCTA budget, describing it as crucial to project execution.
He further thanked the contractor handling the project, noting that both government and contractors had fulfilled their obligations, particularly with improved funding and timely payments.
Wike said the synergy between the executive, legislature, and contractors had made it possible to complete key infrastructure projects within record time, transforming previously undeveloped areas of the capital city.
