Panic broke out at Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Kogi State after suspected gunmen attacked the school during the ongoing NECO examination. The attackers abducted the school principal, a NECO ad hoc official, and four students, causing the examination to be disrupted.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it happened on Tuesday evening in Dekina Local Government Area. Security operatives immediately launched a joint search-and-rescue operation to locate the victims and arrest the attackers.
Police also confirmed that one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims. Senior security officials have visited the community to assess the situation and coordinate rescue efforts.
The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of schools during public examinations. Many Nigerians are calling for stronger security measures to protect students, teachers, and examination officials from similar incidents in the future.
