According to reports, the incident took place along Dayiru Road in Kaduna, after the boy was sent by his mother to withdraw ₦5,000 from a POS operator. It was alleged that the child spent the money instead of returning home with it.
Residents in the area said they became alarmed after hearing the boy’s cries for help and rushed to the family’s home in an attempt to intervene. According to eyewitness accounts, the parents told neighbors that the child had misused the money entrusted to him.
Despite pleas from some residents for the beating to stop, it allegedly continued late into the night. Witnesses claimed the child eventually became unresponsive, and by midnight, he was confirmed dead.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning all forms of child abuse and calling for justice. Others have urged parents and guardians to adopt non-violent methods of discipline, emphasizing that no amount of money or wrongdoing by a child justifies such an extreme response.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, concerned citizens are calling on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable in accordance with the law.
