[JUST IN]: GOVERNOR SACKS ALL COMMISSIONERS AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has sacked all commissioners and dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.

The development, according to reports, is part of preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, allowing affected officials who intend to contest elective positions to step down without any conflict of interest.

The governor directed all former commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.

Zulum also appreciated the commissioners for their service, dedication, and contributions to the development of the state during their time in office.

Meanwhile, a similar move has been recorded in Cross River State, where Governor Bassey Edet Otu ordered members of the State Executive Council and political appointees with ambitions for the 2027 elections to resign.

The directive, issued during a State Executive Council meeting, is aimed at promoting discipline, focus, and integrity in governance.

Otu stressed that no appointee seeking elective office in 2027 would be allowed to remain in government beyond the stipulated deadline.

“As Governor of Cross River State, I have directed that any member of the State Executive Council, as well as all political appointees who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections, must resign from office on or before March 26, 2026,” the governor stated.
