[JUST IN]: Fubara Sacks Rivers EXCO After Abuja Peace Meeting With Tinubu (Full Details)

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has dissolved the State Executive Council in a sweeping move amid ongoing political tensions and an impeachment threat against his administration.

All Commissioners and Special Advisers have been directed to immediately hand over their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

Reports indicate that the directive was issued on Thursday following a high-level meeting between Governor Fubara, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja. The meeting, which took place on Sunday at the Presidential Villa, came against the backdrop of heightened political unrest in the oil-rich state.

Presidency sources disclosed that the intervention was aimed at calming the crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government, which has intensified in recent weeks.

The state has been embroiled in political uncertainty, with renewed hostilities between the governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. A fresh impeachment move against Fubara further escalated tensions, prompting stakeholders to call for urgent federal intervention.

Observers described the high-level meeting at the State House as a decisive step by President Tinubu to restore calm and initiate reconciliation among the warring factions.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike expressed optimism that the prolonged crisis was nearing resolution. He praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a unifying force whose intervention has laid the foundation for lasting peace in Rivers State.

The dissolution of the Executive Council is widely seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate the emerging truce and stabilise governance structures in the state amid ongoing political realignments.
