The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with notable performance figures and a surge in examination malpractice cases.
Registrar Ibrahim Wushishi announced the results on Tuesday in Minna, revealing that candidates were tested in 16 subjects. A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exams, comprising 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%), while 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examinations.
Of the students who took the exams, 73,167 candidates (78.32%) obtained credit passes and above. In mathematics, 85,256 out of 93,330 candidates (91.35%) scored credit passes or higher.
Meanwhile, 68,166 candidates (71.63%) secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, and 82,082 candidates (86.26%) achieved five credits or more regardless of the two compulsory subjects.
However, the registrar disclosed that 9,016 candidates were sanctioned for examination malpractice, marking a 2,856 increase from 2024. In addition, five supervisors from the FCT, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo were blacklisted for allegedly aiding malpractice, and four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano were recommended for de-recognition due to “mass malpractice.”
Wushishi emphasized that the SSCE continues to offer candidates opportunities for tertiary education both in Nigeria and abroad, describing the results as “another milestone” in NECO’s mission to provide credible assessments.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the education sector and revealed that NECO is owed less than N2 billion by Nigeria’s 36 states.
The 2025 SSCE was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, with marking completed from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
