Bashir A. Shaba, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, has resigned from his position, citing dissatisfaction with political developments and the direction of governance in Niger State and Nigeria.
In a resignation letter, Shaba said his decision followed careful reflection, wide consultation, and self-examination. He explained that he could no longer continue in the role as the prevailing political climate no longer aligns with his personal convictions, principles, and vision for genuine public service.
According to him, politics should serve as a tool for accountability, service, and people-centered leadership, stressing that integrity requires stepping aside when personal conscience conflicts with political realities.
Shaba also announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a more credible platform for promoting good governance, inclusiveness, and accountability.
He clarified that his resignation was not driven by personal disagreements or animosity toward Governor Bago or members of the administration, noting that he continues to hold the governor and his office in high regard.
Describing the move as a new chapter in his political journey, Shaba reaffirmed his commitment to principled service and pledged to continue contributing positively to the political development of Niger State and Nigeria.
