[JUST IN]: 11 Dead, Nine Injured in Fatal Road Crash in Jigawa State

No fewer than 11 people have lost their lives, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road accident in Jigawa State.

The accident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m. in Bagewu village, Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.

According to the statement, the crash involved a red Volkswagen Golf 3 saloon car with registration number LNG 983 XA (Jos). The vehicle, driven by a 45-year-old man from Randawa village in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State, was reportedly overloaded with 20 passengers — six men, eight women and six children.

“The vehicle was travelling from Masaka village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State to Dutsi village in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State when the incident occurred,” SP Adam said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened after the vehicle’s front tyre burst while in motion, causing the driver to lose control. The car subsequently veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

“As a result, 11 passengers died instantly, while the remaining nine occupants, including the driver, sustained injuries,” he added.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are reportedly responding to treatment. The police further disclosed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

The command used the incident to caution motorists against speeding, overloading and other dangerous driving habits. It also advised drivers to always ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey, warning that violators of traffic laws will be arrested and prosecuted.
