Several people have reportedly been abducted along the Omi-Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Local sources confirmed the incident but said the exact number of victims and their identities had yet to be ascertained as of press time.
Residents disclosed that security agencies had been alerted to the development. They urged people in surrounding communities to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
Tuesday’s incident occurred barely 24 hours after a similar attack in the area. SaharaReporters had earlier reported heightened tension in the Odo-Ere community following a coordinated Sunday night raid by armed assailants, during which at least four residents were abducted.
Those earlier kidnapped were identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman popularly known as Iya Lara.
Witnesses said the attackers, believed to be heavily armed, moved from house to house firing sporadically. The total number of abducted persons from the latest attack, however, remains unclear, raising fears that more victims may be involved.
A resident, Egbe Mekun, stated that the gunmen also targeted an apartment building and left visible bullet marks after attempts to gain entry failed.
Residents described the atmosphere during the attacks as chaotic and terrifying, with sustained gunfire echoing through the community.
Community members have appealed to security agencies and the Kogi State Government to deploy additional personnel to the area and intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted victims.
Odo-Ere and neighboring communities in Yagba West have recently witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups, underscoring rising insecurity and the vulnerability of rural settlements in Kogi State.
