[JUST IN]: Peter Obi Recounts Cleaning Airplane Toilet As Governor, Says Leaders Must Take Responsibility

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has shared a personal experience from his time in office to illustrate what he described as responsible leadership and problem-solving.

Obi spoke on Monday during a Space session on 𝕏 with his supporters, popularly known as the Obidients.

He recounted that the incident happened years ago during a British Airways flight while he was still serving as governor.

According to Obi, a passenger opened the aircraft’s toilet door, found it in a dirty state, and walked away. Rather than ignore the situation, Obi said he chose to clean the toilet himself.

“We were coming back on British Airways years back; I was a serving governor. The entire toilet was messed up… she opened that toilet to use it; it was messed up and she walked away,” he said.

Obi explained that he went into the toilet, cleaned it up, and left, adding that a member of staff later discovered the place had been tidied.

He said the airline staff was shocked to learn he cleaned it himself, quoting her as saying, “I can’t believe this.”

Explaining the motivation behind his action, Obi stated that he simply did what was necessary at the time.

“I cleaned it because maybe I would be the next person that would go back there to use it,” he said.

Obi used the anecdote to urge Nigerians to take responsibility wherever they find themselves, rather than overlook problems.

“When you see things that are wrong, clean them. I don’t have house help in my house; everybody knows that. Let us stop all this fake life,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, British Airways had yet to react to Obi’s claim.
