Nnamdi Kanu’s Family Defends Sowore, Denies Betrayal Allegations Over Abuja Protest

The family of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed allegations that human rights activist Omoyele Sowore betrayed Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, during Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.

In a statement issued by Kanunta Kanu, the family described the claims as false and baseless, urging the public to disregard them.

The family also debunked reports that a medical team from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had visited Nnamdi Kanu for medical tests as directed by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Kanunta Kanu demanded the immediate release of Ejimakor and other protesters arrested during what he described as a peaceful demonstration.

Expressing shock over allegations of betrayal, Kanunta accused certain South-East political elites of sponsoring the false narrative against Sowore, claiming they were embarrassed that a non-Igbo was leading the charge for Kanu’s release.

“Those pointing accusing fingers at Sowore should stop it. Saying that he sold out Barrister Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu is incorrect,” Kanunta said.
“He did what he was supposed to do by mobilising Nigerians to protest against injustice. Some Nigerians and Igbo politicians are spreading this lie because they are ashamed that Sowore did what they failed to do.”

The Kanu family further accused the Federal Government of conniving in what it described as the continued persecution of Nnamdi Kanu and the Igbo people, insisting that justice must prevail.
