IPOB Blasts Judiciary Over Delay in Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial, Accuses NMA of Breaching Medical Confidentiality

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has criticized the Nigerian judiciary and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) over the continued delay in the trial of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, following the absence of the NMA’s medical report in court on Tuesday, October 8, 2025.

In a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group described the situation as a “mockery of justice” and “evidence of the complete collapse of governance and ethics” within Nigeria’s public institutions.

According to IPOB, the Federal High Court in Abuja had directed the NMA to submit Kanu’s certified medical report, but the association allegedly failed to comply, stalling the proceedings once again. The group accused the NMA of “playing politics” with a judicial order and undermining the rule of law.

IPOB further alleged that the NMA violated medical ethics by forwarding Kanu’s confidential medical report to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) instead of the court, describing the action as a “criminal breach of doctor–patient confidentiality.”

“The NMA has disgraced itself before the world by submitting our leader’s private medical details to the AGF — the same person responsible for his persecution,” the statement said. “This unethical conduct violates both Nigerian law and international medical standards.”

The pro-Biafra group also faulted the presiding judge, Justice Omotosho, accusing him of failing to take decisive action to stop what it termed “a circus of injustice.” It argued that the Attorney-General’s office had obtained Kanu’s medical report “illegally” but refused to present it in open court.

IPOB reiterated concerns about Kanu’s deteriorating health, claiming that he suffers from potassium depletion, sleep apnea, angina, and tinnitus, allegedly resulting from torture while in detention. The group insisted that “no Nigerian hospital” has been able to diagnose or treat his condition effectively.

“This government’s refusal to release the genuine medical report only proves its fear that it confirms the extent of the injuries inflicted on him,” IPOB alleged.

The group further accused Nigeria’s leadership of ethnic bias and selective justice, claiming that while “terrorists operate freely,” the government continues to persecute Kanu for advocating self-determination.

IPOB demanded Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release, citing previous court rulings in his favor, and called for an independent medical examination supervised by international bodies such as the African Union and ECOWAS Court.

“Justice delayed is not justice denied but justice destroyed,” the statement concluded. “The world is watching.”
