A group under the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Global Defence Consortium (GDC) has described the so-called “Odua People’s Assembly” that recently attacked activist Omoyele Sowore as fake and non-existent.
In a strongly worded statement issued by Onyedikachi Ifedi, Esq., the consortium accused the alleged group of being a “phantom organization created by propaganda merchants to discredit Sowore’s lawful campaign for justice.”
According to the statement dated October 15, 2025, the name “Odua People’s Assembly” has no registration record, office address, or leadership, insisting it was fabricated to mislead the public.
“There is no registered organization under that name with the CAC, no address, no leadership, and no record of civic engagement. It exists only in the imagination of desperate spin doctors,” the statement read.
The GDC defended Sowore’s ongoing call for the release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as “a constitutional demand anchored in justice and conscience.”
“Omoyele Sowore’s call for Kanu’s release is not a crime — it is protected under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 11 of the African Charter, which guarantee freedom of assembly and expression,” it added.
The group also accused government-backed propagandists of attempting to rewrite the #EndSARS narrative by denying the findings of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, which held security forces responsible for the Lekki Toll Gate killings.
“The same hypocrites now attacking Sowore pretend not to know that the Lagos panel found the Army and Police culpable for the killings,” the group stated.
Calling the “Odua People’s Assembly” a tool of “manufactured ignorance and paid mischief,” the GDC praised respected Yoruba figures like Femi Falana (SAN) and the late Gani Fawehinmi, noting that “true Yoruba intellectuals stand for justice, not treachery.”
Reaffirming its stance, the consortium said Sowore’s campaign only seeks obedience to the Court of Appeal judgment of October 13, 2022, which discharged Kanu.
“The real issue is Nigeria’s refusal to obey its own court. Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention is an open wound on the nation’s conscience,” it stated.
The GDC concluded with a warning to alleged propagandists:
“You can invent as many fake ‘assemblies’ as you like; you cannot erase the truth. History will remember those who stood for justice when tyranny sought to silence it.”
