Reports That The
Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Apostle Governor Prince Bassey Otu, has directed the State Ministry of Works to immediately commence repair works on the Akamkpa-Iwuru Federal Road, following growing concerns over its deteriorating condition.

The directive was announced by High Chief Ambassador Bill Francis Bill, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Communications, who confirmed that the decision was prompted by reports of daily accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and the general hardship being faced by road users in the area.

“The road has been destroying people’s cars on a daily basis, and it's high time we took action,” Pastor Bill stated in a recent interview. “His Excellency has heard the cries of the people and has chosen to act swiftly in line with his People First development agenda.”

The Akamkpa-Iwuru route, a vital artery for local commuters, traders, and transporters, has long been neglected, drawing widespread frustration from residents and travelers alike. The road’s poor state has made it nearly impassable during the rainy season, leading to a surge in accidents and damaged vehicles.

Governor Otu’s swift intervention has sparked hope and renewed confidence in his administration, especially among the people of Akamkpa and Iwuru communities. Many residents have welcomed the decision as a much-needed step toward restoring the region’s infrastructure and economic activity.

According to the Governor’s Office, the Ministry of Works has already mobilized personnel and resources to begin immediate rehabilitation of the road. The move is expected to not only ease transportation challenges but also improve trade and access to essential services for residents.

The Governor’s People First campaign promise, described as “burning like hot oil in a frying pan” by SA Bill Francis Bill, continues to shape the administration’s developmental priorities. This road repair project is one of many expected initiatives under Governor Otu’s leadership aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits across the state.

The community has expressed gratitude for the intervention and remains hopeful that this marks the beginning of a broader transformation in Cross River’s road network and overall governance.

Signed:
High Chief Ambassador Bill Francis Bill
Special Adviser on Community Communications to His Excellency, Apostle Governor Prince Otu
